Are You Hearing This?

Posted in culture update on 10/23/2008 by groverb

We live busy lives….sometimes so busy we forget that the culture in which we live is sending messages that we need to be aware of.  Whether we choose to respond or not – it is imperative that we realize what is “being said” or maybe what is “not being said” is forming our societal values.  With that said…once a week I’ll throw up some quotes from pop culture….feel free to comment or respond.

“As you go through the divorce, your heart hardens a little bit, and it takes a lot of strength to knock down that wall you’ve built and be yourself again.”

            – Singer/actress Jessica Simpson, Entertainment Weekly, September 19, 2008, p. 36.

“Real friends are hard to come by—but they’re so important. You need those people in your life who make you feel safe. You need a place you can go back to and be exactly who you are—and be loved and accepted for that. Real friends are like the family you choose.”

            – Actress America Ferrera, Seventeen, October 2008, p. 129.

“The newer religions – Scientology and Mormonism – they had to raise the bar on crazy. Because once you’ve done the talking snake, and the man who lived in the whale, and God having a son who lived through a suicide mission to Earth because he’s really his own father, where do you go from there?”

            – Bill Maher (Religulous) answering the question, “Do you find the tenets of religions like Scientology any more absurd than those of Christianity?” Radar, October/ November 2008, p. 68.

Latest happenings and the truly bizarre!

CRAZY!…that’s pretty much the only word I can use to describe the Bradford family these days!

Our lives have revolved around Football, school, football, work, football, basketball, football, family reunion…oh and did I mention football?

I’m not complaining…all I’m saying is that life has been fairly busy.  The Bradford clan had a reunion this past weekend here in Alberta. It was held at Rivers Edge Camp in Sundre Alberta…91 people showed up throughout the weekend…which was a great turnout!  I have to admit it was kind of weird being there without any parent…the last reunion we went to…my parents were still alive…so that was kind of bizarre.

Another highlight this past weekend was my day spent as a Calgary Stampeder!  a few months back i won a contest to be a Stamp for the day…so on Sunday morning I showed uyp at McMahon to mee the head coach, sign my contract and practice with the team.  It was a blast!  unfortunately after practice and during the press conference I was formally released from the team…I have to admit it was hard to take the rejection..but who knows maybe next year!!

Got to just give a quick shout out to those STAMPS who stomped those stubble jumpers from Saskabush!  I fully respect the passion of RIDER fans…what else is their to cheer about in Saskatchewan?  I know the majority of their offense is on the shelf…but where did the defence go on Monday?  42 pts given up?  Enough said…

Now the bizarre…there are alot of people in the world these days that love to rail on God…they blame him for pain, suffering, the economy, famines, global warming and anything and everything else that they can’t control…I came across this article today and I seriously almost soiled myself – this dude is nuts!
