We live busy lives….sometimes so busy we forget that the culture in which we live is sending messages that we need to be aware of. Whether we choose to respond or not – it is imperative that we realize what is “being said” or maybe what is “not being said” is forming our societal values. With that said…once a week I’ll throw up some quotes from pop culture….feel free to comment or respond.
“As you go through the divorce, your heart hardens a little bit, and it takes a lot of strength to knock down that wall you’ve built and be yourself again.”
– Singer/actress Jessica Simpson, Entertainment Weekly, September 19, 2008, p. 36.
“Real friends are hard to come by—but they’re so important. You need those people in your life who make you feel safe. You need a place you can go back to and be exactly who you are—and be loved and accepted for that. Real friends are like the family you choose.”
– Actress America Ferrera, Seventeen, October 2008, p. 129.
“The newer religions – Scientology and Mormonism – they had to raise the bar on crazy. Because once you’ve done the talking snake, and the man who lived in the whale, and God having a son who lived through a suicide mission to Earth because he’s really his own father, where do you go from there?”
– Bill Maher (Religulous) answering the question, “Do you find the tenets of religions like Scientology any more absurd than those of Christianity?” Radar, October/ November 2008, p. 68.
