Let me start by saying “THANK YOU”
- For giving us the privilege of ministering too – but more importantly alongside your children. There were just so many divine appointments yesterday I can’t even begin to describe them all – God showed up BIG TIME yesterday…and He did it by working through your kids!! PRAISE GOD!!
- For your continued prayers – Satan is not to happy right now – as of today we have two out with gastrointestinal issues – please pray that Deanna and Abigail will be brought back to health. They are laying low today after a real tough night. Also pray that the “drama” which so often raises it’s ugly head during these trips will be cut off! We are all beginning to see people at their worse and their best…I ‘m sure you understand what I’m talking about?
So what happened yesterday and what’s going on today? First of all let me say a big “HAPPY CANADA DAY”…okay here’s a brief rundown of the last 24 hours:
- I am so incredibly proud of your kids – they stepped up big time yesterday. They were Jesus to many individuals yesterday…they listened to people’s stories, asked deep and meaningful questions, picked up tons of garbage around Oppenheimer Park which many of them call home. They handed out bag lunhces to the hungry, they gave cold water to the thirsty. They served hot meals to many who are in transition and they even led a church service for close to a hundred clients from the Union Gospel Mission! That’s not all! They also ran a kids program at Ward Memorial Church where they hung out with kids, made an incredible lunch and then went strawberry picking in order to make jam with the kids on Wednesday. There was even a group that stayed at headquarters to do a variety of different projects around the church.
Overall, it was an incredible day! We all had a shower in the afternoon and then we all met for supper (penne pasta & meatballs, green beans and salad). After supper we loaded the vans and headed over to Lynn Canyon for a nature hike…it was truly inspiring! The thought that came to my mind was this “How can this beauty and affluence live so close to poverty and nothingness…it was then I heard these words in my heart, “God sees all he has created as beautiful – it is us who has put labels on these people.”
After we got back we had club and a little snack and headed for bed – we were so grateful that it was a lot cooler than the night before!! Thank you Jesus!!
This morning we all woke up at 7am…crawled over to breakfast and then we had out devotional time. After that was completed we gathered for group prayer/ final instructions and then we headed out to our ministry sites – here is what is happening today:
Karen / Nicky and crew – Oppenheimer and Harbour lights
Britt and Alvin – United Housing Project
Brody / Rolanda – Union Gospel Mission East Hastings
Henry – Union Gospel Mission New Westminster
Mike – Gather & Give distribution center
Ben & James – Ward Memorial Baptist Camp Can-do
Mike Enns – UGM New West
Tonight we will be participating in Street Church and going for our prayer walk – pray hard! That God will continue to work in the hearts and lives of our leaders and students. That they will have the eyes of Jesus and they will show grace and compassion to those they come into contact with.
I hope you have enjoyed this MTO update…it’s nice to see that many of you are taking advantage of this great blog technology! Please feel free to leave any comments and I will be sure to pass them onto the team.
Have a great day!
