“Why are we inspired from another person’s courage? Maybe because it gives us the sweet and genuine surprise of discovering some trace, at least, of the same courage in ourselves.” – Laurence Shames (author)
“COURAGE”….even when you say the word there is a sense of honour and strength hidden within it’s meaning. What is it about courage that builds a sense of inspiration within us? There will be days in my own life where I’ll be reading a newspaper or surfing the web for some interesting story….story after story is filled with the depravity of the human race – murder, abuse, scandals, jail time. If not the symptoms of our depravity…then it tends to turn to the sensationalization of our culture. I am not going to deny the fact that we can learn from the failures of those we often idolize in Hollywood – but is Amy Winehouse coming out of rehab really worthy of making the front page news?
The days are few and far between when you can open the paper or watch the news and hear and see the stories of human courage. For me personally, I see courage lived out on a daily basis – lived out in the lives of people I have the privilege of working with. What about yourself? How do you define courage? Does it only show itself when someone saves people from drowning or someone is dragged from a burning vehicle? May we all be challenges to live a life of courage…and to call it out in the lives of those around us.
