As mentioned yesterday we just returned back from a 5 day get-away to Panorama. It was so nice to escape the big city and to spend some time in God’s beautiful creation. As a family we spent the majority of our time hanging out with a family from church we invited to join us, eating lots of yummy food, sitting in the hot tubs, skiing for a day and did I mention eating a lot of yummy food?
We arrived late Sunday night – had some serious steaks and a nice hot tub and headed off to bed. The next morning as the blinds went up the sun shone in and the majesty of God’s creation once again took precedent. I was basically speechless as I stared at the spectacular view of the mountains that were so close I could reach out and touch them!
My thoughts once again raced back to my childhood – there were many Sunday afternoons in Banff – that I came far too close to the mountains edge. Think about it for a moment – there are some good and bad about getting real close to the edge. The bad:( plain and simple – it is dangerous at the edge — you can fall off. But the good:-) the view from the edge is spectacular!
To some extent we all spend alot of out time here on earth peering over the edge. What edge are you approaching this very moment? Maybe you are at the edge — financially, with a teenager you don’t know what to do with, or maybe in your marriage. It could be you’re at the edge emotionally; you’re not sure how much more you can take, or the pressures of life have gotten so heavy that they’re taking you to the edge.
Being close to the edge is dangerous, and it’s an exciting place to be, too. If you’re not so sure about that “exciting” part, you need to check out Exodus 14 beginning in verse 9. If ever a group of God’s people were at the edge, it’s here. The ancient Jews have been delivered by God from their enslavement in Egypt and now they have made camp with the Red Sea in front of them. And the Bible says, “All Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, horsemen, and troops pursued the Israelites and overtook them as they camped by the sea.” Talk about being on the edge!! A crazy man and his henchmen behind you and a very large puddle in front of you.
But remember — it was God who led them to the edge. It usually is. If you’re in the middle of a Red Sea Moment, it is most likely part of the great and loving plans of God for you.
So why did God bring His people to this dangerous edge where there clearly seemed to be no solutions, no rescue? For the same reason He has brought you to the edge — so you could see a more spectacular view of Him than you have ever seen before!
If God has led you to this edge, then you have every right to expect a miracle – which you would never need or never see if it weren’t for this scary, overwhelming moment. In any Red Sea moment you will ultimately see God a part of it.
It is there you’ll gaze at the spectacular view of God, and you’d never see it if you didn’t go to the edge! It will change your life forever! So step to the edge….and don’t bother looking down…look up and see what God has in store for you.
Tomorrow …i’ll fill you in with what I’ve been reading and learning over the past few weeks.
