It still amazes me that as I sit down with parents, pastors and people in leadership I continue to hear phrases such as;
- What’s this whole social media thingy?
- A social media strategy?
- This whole social media thing is a passing fad?
Seriously?? A fad….was the printing press a fad? was the birth of the world wide web a fad? ….
The issue appears to be that the majority of those in leadership (particularly in North America) are the traditionalists and baby boomers …simply put the “Digital Immigrants”. On the other end of the spectrum you have Gen X ….who were and are the pioneers of the digital world. Finally there are the Millennials aka: Screenagers…Gen Y / Z – the Digital Natives. Their lives are completely “on-line” all of the time.
How should the older generations respond to this revolution?
- embrace it?
- Stick your head in the sand…and pray it goes away?
Take a look at the latest edition of refresh: the social media revolution…and then when you are finished I’d love to hear your feedback?
