As I spent time with a large group of grade 5/6 students this weekend…I kept hearing the buzz of how many of the girls in that group along with their entire classmates were heading to the JB concert in town tonight.
I will be the first to admit…the boy has some sick skills…as seen below
But then the red flag appeared….
I’m not a Bieber hater but when it comes to our kids…who really should be their role models? As parents are we sold on a 16 year old who has yet to reach puberty who is singing of a love he has yet to experience?
I had the chance this past week to sit down and watch the PVR version of the Video Music Awards (PVR was key so I could fast forward through all the propaganda and self-promotion)
I wasn’t surprised at how MTV continues to push the envelope on all facets of culture….I was simply disappointed knowing that many of the students I’ve been investing in were tuning in and idolizing these individuals who are using their God-given talents all in the name of making $.
Here is a great article on the VMA’s from last week: 2010 VMA
Maybe the question we need to start asking as parents…Who are our Role Models? If we have none…can we really be surprised when our children (who are bombarded everyday by media & culture) are choosing role models to emulate.
Maybe its time we stand up and BE the role models they are so desperately searching for.
Just a thought….
