“So what did you want to talk about today”? “I’d like to discuss my kids behaviour – I just can’t understand why Johnny is acting out? I try to keep him busy – we are doing everything we can to provide good influences…but nothing is working – any ideas as to what we can do”?
I hear this day and day out – parents concerned about the behaviour of their child. As a parent – if I choose to dwell on behaviour – it can overwhelm me just as much.
The fact is we as parents often consciously choose to focus on behaviour because it’s the only thing we can see and potentially change and control within our children. Our children’s behaviour often becomes a distorted barometer in terms of our parenting.
Which means as long as my kid stays in line and keeps their nose clean the perception is that I/we are good parents. When they misbehave it is a clear indicator that I/we are never going to win the “BEST PARENT” award.
Have we ever considered fighting for the core of who are children are and who God has created them to be? For more on this – take a look at what Carey has to say…
