So last night I am sitting at our Central Campus watching the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra with special guest Michael W. Smith. I was finding it very difficult to stop thinking about all the distractions of this season and the things that need to get done in the next few days before my actual Christmas break.
Then it happened…
Michael began to play a song entitled “Christmastime” (video below) and these thoughts flooded to mind….
When God decided to select a mother for His Son, He went past the fashion salons & beauty parlours. He went past the furs & diamonds & gold, & went to an insignificant village called Nazareth.
He found a peasant girl. She did not dress in designer clothes. She did not have a sophisticated education. But she was pure, & God selected her to be the mother of His only begotten Son.
Look at Jesus…he wasn’t born at the Children’s Hospital, surrounded by gynaecologists, nurses & assistants. But rather, He is born in a stable. He is wrapped in baby clothes & laid in a feeding trough. Our cultures response is to say “That’s nuts…how foolish can you get.” But Paul says, “The foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, & the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.” (1 Corinthians 1:25)
Because of the greastest gift to humankind…we are loved and we are known and important by the creator of all things
We all have experienced what it feels like to be left out… but this Christmas may we never forget. The light shines, & God says, “No! You’re wrong. I made the announcement to shepherds, & I make it to you. Unto you a Saviour is born.”The final truth is that YOUR LIFE MATTERS, BECAUSE GOD LOVES YOU
I imagine those shepherds must have sat around the campfire many times & wondered if life was really worthwhile or not.“What difference does it make if we watch the sheep or not?”
- Would it make a difference in this world if you were to stay in bed for a week?
- What are you truly passionate about?
- Why do you believe you are on this planet?
