With two sleeps left before the BIG day I am finding it hard to keep things in perspective.
This holiday which has become so insanely consumeristic – entices me to believe that Christmas is about “RECEIVING” more than “GIVING” and ultimately it’s about “ME” and my loved ones….it’s become more about purchasing PEACE, JOY & HAPPINESS – rather than basking in the PEACE, JOY & CONTENTMENT that can only be found in the BABY JESUS we have parachuted into this pagan celebration.
A great teachable moment took place this afternoon as the boys and myself bundled up to deliver our weekly flyers. The spirit of entitlement is alive and well in our household these days which manifests itself in the attitudes of my children. They began to complain about how it’s not fair that for an hour in a day they have to deliver flyers to strangers homes while other kids sit at home in front of their flat screens playing video games.
It was time for a perspective check! Boy did I bring it! Maybe a little too much? We discussed the fact that the majority of kids their age around the world have to work for a living. Many are sold by their parents into different forms of slavery while others scrounge through garbage heaps too find food to bring home for their families.
It was a sobering moment for all of us…a moment that brought about a new perspective heading into these next few days. So I ask you….where are you at? Do you need a knew perspective heading into this busy, fast paced weekend?
As you answer that question – take a look at this video. It is sure to help in the keeping your perspective.
