Singing has become such a HUGE aspect of church culture in North America – so much so – when you say the word “WORSHIP” – people right away equate it to singing.
I’ll be the first to admit I love music….I love all forms…even the music played and sung on Sundays at our church gathering. I am also one who loves to critique and analyze what and to whom we are singing too.
I have to be honest here: many times although I may love the tune and even what the song writer is trying to express – I can’t sing the words. If I were to sing… I’d be fooling myself and ultimately putting on a show.
Praise and worship is meant to be heartfelt and transparent – but when you are not “feeling it” – is it more appropriate to remain silent in the posture of prayer?
I don’t have the answers…just something I’ve been thinking about. I’d love to hear your thoughts and perspectives….
